Frequently Asked Questions

What should my child wear?

FOR CLASS?

  • Gymnasts need to wear firm fitting clothes for safety. This includes leotards, t-shirts and shorts, leggings or crop tops and shorts. All our classes are completed barefoot so please ensure your gymnast has no socks or tights with their feet covered as it is a safety risk. This includes during Winter.

  • During the colder months, students are encouraged to wear warm clothes (jumper and pants) to and from the club.

  • Hair should be pulled neatly and securely away from the face so that is stays up for the entire session. Bows or other large hair ornaments that may pose a safety risk should not be worn to any sessions.

  • No jewelry or watches are allowed during class. We recommend you keep all valuables at home.

  • Please no food or chewing gum inside the gym.

TO AND FROM THE GYM?

  • All students must wear appropriate footwear to and from the club to prevent injury before and after class.

  • During the colder months, students are encouraged to wear warm clothes (jumper and pants) to wear to and from the club.

What should my child bring to class?

  • Please ensure your gymnast brings a large drink bottle filled only with water to have during class.

  • If your gymnast has any medical conditions. please ensure you let our coaches know. If they require any asthma inhalers or medication, please ensure they are packed and clearly labelled.

Recreational

Can I stay and watch?

  • Absolutely. Parent and friends are welcome to stay and watch should you like. You can choose to watch from downstairs in the foyer or upstairs in our family space. Alternatively, on beautiful days, families and friends have been known to sit outside by the roller doors and enjoy the sunshine and cool breeze.

  • Tea, coffee and Wi-Fi facilities are available for you to enjoy upstairs.

When will my child move up a level in the Gems program?

  • Our GEMS program is designed to build from one level to the next, ensuring the gymnasts have the necessary skills to be successful in the next level. Our lessons are carefully constructed so all gymnasts have the opportunity to work all the skills required in their level. We assess the gymnasts at least twice per term to check off any skills they have acquired. This will be noted on the parent portal if you would like to follow along and see how your gymnast is progressing. If they miss an assessment, they will get a chance to try again later.

How long will it take my child to move up a level?

  • Our foundation Levels 1 and 2 usually take between 6 and 12 months each (but can be more or less depending on your child’s abilities) whilst our more advanced Level 3 and up classes (Opal, Ruby, Emerald and Diamond) are expected to take longer than 12 months.

  • When your gymnast has successfully achieved the skills required for their level, they will receive a certificate and we will notify you and let you know what class to enrol them in next.

What if my child will be absent for a class?

  • Whilst we encourage 100% attendance, we understand, and agree, that school and family come first and sometimes we all get sick.

  • In the event that you are away for any period of time, no part of the enrolment fee will be refunded. If notified in advance and prior to the start of the enrolled class, a make up token will be added to your account. Please email us at admin@horizongymnasticsclub.com.au to let us know of your child’s absence.

  • Make up tokens can be used in equivalent classes as listed in your notification email and expire at the end of each term.

Can my child attend a class casually?

  • No, our Gems classes are all on a term enrolment. This means you book and secure your child’s place for the entire term. This allows us to staff and plan the classes to be most effective for our gymnasts.

What if my child no longer wants to attend?

  • If you or your child change your mind about a class enrolment, 14 days written notice is required. You can email us at admin@horizongymnasticsclub.com.au. A refund will be issued for the remainder of the term minus the above 14 days.

Can I wait in my car for my child at pickup?

  • No. To ensure the safety of your gymnast, please drop off and pick up your gymnast from inside the building. All gymnasts will be Instructed to wait inside the building, regardless of their age, at the end of their class until a parent is there to collect them.

  • Horizon Gymnastics Club will not be responsible for the safety of your child in the instance that you request they leave the building to walk to or from your car without parental escort.

Does my child get to do competitions?

  • Our GEMS gymnasts in our Opal and above classes get the opportunity to compete 1-2 times a year in Interclub competitions should they wish. These may take place in the South West or in Perth. These competitions are not compulsory so your child can still continue in the same class should they decide competitions are not for them.

What if my child wants to take gymnastics more seriously and switch to a competitive pathway?

  • In the event that your child is seeking more from their gymnastics classes, please speak to our head coach, Linda, by emailing admin@horizongymnasticsclub.com.au. Form there a skill assessment will be completed at a separate time to see whether your child is ready and able for a competitive pathway.

I have boys. Can they attend too?

  • Absolutely. We offer a Boys Only class as well as our Level 1 and Level 2 Gems classes. Our Boys Only classes are for boys aged 5 years and up and incorporate men's artistic gymnastics as well as a combination of tumbling and parkour that is bound to get your child moving. Jump, spin, sprint, climb and bound. You name it, they'll be doing it. These classes will be fast paced, fun and yet challenging for all levels to enjoy and where your child can work on not only their skills but also their strength, body control, speed and agility.

KinderGym

Can I bring my older or younger child to a KinderGym class?

  • All our KinderGym classes are designed to be age specific so they safely target the developmental milestones for each age group. For this reason, only those children in the class age group can attend and participate in the class. If you have multiple children who are aged 1-4, we recommend you attend our Siblings and Friends KinderGym class which is specifically designed for siblings and friends to participate together.
